These hand-braided rope/cord bracelets are colorful and meaningful pieces of jewelry. They connect you to a heritage that dates back over 2,000 years. Inspired by the Dragon Boat Festival, which falls on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month (late May/June), these series showcase the “Union of Double Five” through careful knotting and meaningful charms.
Each bracelet is a wearable and customizable wish for peace, health, and lasting energy.
The Collections
This series celebrates tradition in two ways: the Peach Blossom series and the Perfect Ten series, both honoring the Dragon Boat festival’s ‘Double 5’ date. The Peach Blossom bracelets have two peach blossom rings and ten blossom knots, symbolizing pure love and good fortune.
The Perfect Ten series features ten glass pearls, two peach blossom rings, and a zongzi-shaped charm, which pays tribute to the sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves enjoyed during the Dragon Boat festival.
Each bracelet is hand-braided using an eight-strand technique and takes around 90 minutes to complete, creating a piece that is both comfortable and durable.
Create Your Own Lucky Charm
These bracelets are made with strong, high-quality thread for lasting wear and easy customization. The 3mm cord lets you add your favorite beads or keepsakes, turning this old symbol of protection into a lucky charm that grows with your story.
A Heritage of Nearly 2,000 Years
The custom of wearing five-colored threads during the Dragon Boat Festival can be traced back to Han-era traditions. The classic text Fengsu Tongyi records the practice of tying five-colored silk to the arm on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month as a way to ward off misfortune, illness, and harmful spirits. Later festival writings also refer to these threads as changming lü, or “longevity threads,” reflecting wishes for health, protection, and long life.
The Ritual of Peace
In some regional Dragon Boat Festival traditions, colorful threads are worn to ward off misfortune and protect health. After the festival, people may cut off the threads on the first rainy day and throw them into the rain or flowing water, symbolically letting the water carry away illness, worries, and bad luck. In this way, the bracelet becomes a seasonal wish for peace, protection, and a healthy year ahead.
