Since its release in the 70s, the Zhongcha 7581 brick has become a classic, must-try ripe pu erh tea for every pu erh lover.
Wood and Buttershotch Sweetness
The material used for this tea comes from the Menghai tea region, known for its high-quality, highly fragrant teas with a rich taste.
It features a pleasant thickness, pronounced woody aroma, and mild earthiness. The long-lasting aftertaste is sweet and reminds one of toffee and butterscotch. Thanks to its high viscosity, the fragrance lingers in both the mouth and the cup. At the same time, the optimal aging in the original, unopened packaging box allowed the tea to become mellow and smooth, without any dryness or bitterness.
7581 Explained
The string of numbers "7581" is a classic example of the pu erh tea numbering system:
- "75" represents the year the recipe was created (1975);
- "8" refers to the grade of leaves used for this tea:
- "1" is the code for the Kunming Tea Factory.
A Piece of History
The Kunming Tea Factory originally developed this tea, which was a significant part of the first large-scale production of ripe pu erh bricks. Its popularity helped establish ripe pu erh as a daily drink, and the batches produced in the 1980s and 1990s are now highly sought after.
After a pause in production between 1996 and 2005, the Zhongcha brand revived the 7581 recipe. This tea proudly carries the name and tradition of those early batches from the last century, serving as a direct link to one of the most iconic teas in pu erh history. Overall, if you appreciate history, traditions, and tea, this classic ripe pu erh is a must-have.

Brewing: 6g/100ml, 100°C, 15s, +5s.
Warmed-up dry leaves smell of wood and spices. When wet, those spices intensify.
The liquor has a muted boiled plum note in the background, many fascinating layers of wood in the middle and warm spices in the front. Smooth blend, good complexity. A soft bitter note brings the spices close to liquorice, but they end up somewhere different and exciting. Very interesting, very satisfying and rather cheap. Score: 9/10. Good for 8 steeps.
Good budget puer, good value prices and quality
