Zhu Ni Clay

Zhu Ni clay is a type of Hong Ni clay, which means "red clay" in Chinese. Zhu Ni clay is a specific kind of Hong Ni clay that has a high iron content and a fine particle size, which makes it more delicate and dense than other types of Hong Ni clay. It's also clay is also more difficult to work with for an artist, as it shrinks more than other types of clay when fired, increasing the risk of cracking or breaking. Zhu Ni pots have a silky texture and a brilliant shine that develops from use. They also have a high heat conductivity and a low fragrance absorption, which makes them ideal for brewing fragrant teas, such as oolong, black, or green tea. At last, tey can enhance the sweetness and smoothness of tea.

Xishi Teapot Shape

The xishi shape is one of the most classic and popular shapes for Yixing teapots. It is named after Xishi, one of the Four Beauties of ancient China, who was known for her grace and charm. Such teapots have a round body, a short spout, a dome-shaped lid, and a loop handle. It's said that the xishi shape is designed to resemble the elegance and femininity of Xishi herself.

Yixing teapots that are made in the xishi shape are suitable for brewing any kind of tea. The round body allows the tea leaves to expand fully and release their flavor and aroma. The short spout ensures a smooth and even pour and the loop handle is comfortable to hold and adds balance to the teapot.

Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.

When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.

Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
