This Maojian green tea offers a nutty and floral aroma with a refreshing citrus aftertaste. We never intended to offer another Xinyang Maojian, besides our classic offering, but this one we couldn't let go.

This Wild Xinyang Maojian is a delicate and rare green tea harvested from a high mountain area in Xinyang's core tea region. The production period lasts only 7 to 10 days each year, right before the Chinese festival of Qingming. As a result, we only have a small 5kg batch available.

The leaves are small, slightly curled, and emerald green, releasing a fresh and rich fragrance. In the cup, the tea is floral and nutty, with chestnut and light roasted notes, followed by a refreshing citrus finish. The aftertaste is smooth, sweet, and long-lasting, without bitterness. Compared to our classic Xinyang Maojian, this wild version is fresher and more floral, and dry leaves are more curly. It's highly recommended, if you enjoy:

  • the nutty, roasted character of Long Jing;
  • the floral character of Tie Guan Yin; or
  • the citrus fresh finish of Anji Bai

Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.

When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.

Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
