Without doubt the most popular Chinese black tea from Fengqing Yunnan, with an abundance of beautiful golden tips. It offers a soft, savory taste with an intense honey-sweet and flowery aroma.
Unlike regular Chinese black tea, the delicate tea tips are handpicked from wild trees and processed manually to ensure a consistent, high-grade tea with a signature golden appearance. For the experienced tea drinker, Yunnan Gold offers a balanced alternative to other Chinese classics. It lacks the assertive smoke of a Lapsang Souchong and the sharp intensity of a Keemun.
While Yunnan has been the center of pu erh tea production for millennia, its black tea history is relatively modern. The first Dian Hong was successfully processed in Fengqing in 1939. Since then, Yunnan has joined Fujian as one of China’s two most respected regions for high-end black tea production.

How this black tea is made
Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.
When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.
Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
