A raw pu erh tea made from leaves harvested from wild tea trees from Man Zhuan mountain, Yunnan. It's pressed in an accessible small and round tea cake. Because it is tightly pressed, we recommend prying it using a tea prick. This tea is made mostly of large leaves and has a floral, herbs and mineral aroma. Its initial mild bitterness is quickly replaced by a lingering sweetness that persists for a long time.

Man Zhuan Shan

Man Zhuan Shan Mountain is one of the historic "Six Tea Mountains" located north of the Lancang River in Xishuangbanna. Along with the other five mountains—You Le, Ge Deng, Yi Bang, Mang Zhi, and Man Sa—this region has been pivotal for tea cultivation since the mid-1700s. It boasts an ideal natural environment for growing the leaves essential for producing high-quality pu-erh. Nestled alongside Ye Xiang Mountain and the Mo Zhe River, Man Zhuan is a gem in the tea world.

Approximately 2,930 Mu (195 hectares) of ancient tea gardens thrive in Man Zhuan Shan Mountain. These ancient tea trees are predominantly found scattered among dense forests, with various cultivars growing at elevations ranging from 565 to 1,540 meters above sea level. The Yunnan Large Leaf Camellia Sinensis Var Assamica (Da Ye Zhong) cultivar is the predominant variety in this region, while around 25% of the tea trees are classified as small leaf cultivar (Xiao Ye Zhong) trees.

Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.

When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.

Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
