This instant tea resin blends ripe pu erh tea with delicate rose buds, creating a smooth, naturally sweet cup with soft floral notes. The rounded, mellow character of ripe pu erh pairs beautifully with the gentle fragrance of rose, resulting in a balanced, comforting tea that’s easy to enjoy any time of day, everywhere you are.

Heart-shaped, these tea resins make a charming gift choice, whether for loved ones or as a personal treat. Each piece is designed as a single serving, weighing approximately 0.5 grams, and is individually foil-wrapped.

Cha Gao has a high caffeine content. We suggest consuming no more than 1 or 2 tea resins per day.

Cha Gao: The Ancient Instant Tea

Cha Gao 茶膏 is a traditional tea preparation originating from Yunnan, made by extracting liquid from tea leaves and carefully reducing it into a concentrated resin that dissolves in water. The name “Cha Gao” translates to “tea paste” or “tea resin.”

The technique dates back to the Tang 唐 and Song 宋 dynasties and reached its peak during the Qing 清 dynasty, when pu erh Cha Gao was produced for imperial consumption. After the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911, these methods were largely lost and production nearly disappeared. With modern technology, it is now possible to produce tea resin that closely resembles the quality achieved during its historical peak.

How to Prepare Tea Resin Hearts?

Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.

When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.

Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
