A ripe pu erh tea blended with a small amount of the Semnostachya Menglaensis herb from the rain forest in Mengla. This classic combination allows this pu erh tea to have a smooth earthy taste with balanced aroma of ‘fragrant rice’.

For your convenience, this tea is individually packed in single serve paper wrappers. Due to its unique rice fragrance we highly recommend this tea to those who also love toasty/rice scent teas such as genmaicha, roasted rice tea or buckwheat tea.

First time I drank this (new to ripe Pe Erh) I was disgusted and hated it. I was told it is an aquired taste, and this is true: it now is one of my favorite teas, and I love to drink it in the dark season!

Brewing: 1 piece/80ml, 100°C, 25s, 15s, 10s, +5s. Warmed-up dry leaves smell mostly like the aromatic herb: burned rice. When wet, fancy wood, tobacco and spices come out. The liquor is rich with with woody and earthy notes, like forest ground after rain, blended wonderfully with boiled rice that started getting burned because the water evaporated. It's a very good combination, that even purists will appreciate - just like jasmine and green tea. It's OK to brew the "mini tuo-cha" piece with less water than recommended, because shou pu-erh only gets better when it's more concentrated. There is no bitterness or astringency to worry about.

Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.

When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.

Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
