Origin and Heritage
Jin Jun Mei is a premium Chinese black tea from the Wuyi Mountains of Fujian Province. This area is historically significant as the birthplace of Lapsang Souchong, one of the earliest black teas ever produced. While it draws on this ancient lineage, Jin Jun Mei is a relatively modern tea style. Developed in the early 2000s, it was inspired by traditional Zheng Shan Xiao Zhong production but refined into a more delicate, golden bud-heavy black tea.
Meaning of the Name
The name Jin Jun Mei translates roughly to “Golden Beautiful Eyebrow,” which describes its physical and qualitative characteristics:
- Jin: Refers to the golden color of the tea buds.
- Jun: Often associated with high quality and its origin in high mountains.
- Mei: Refers to the delicate, eyebrow-like shape of the tea.
Terroir and Environment
Our authentic Jin Jun Mei from Wuyishan benefits from a pristine mountain environment. The Wuyi Mountains are known for their incredible biodiversity and a humid mountain climate, which support the development of high-quality tea through several factors:

- A cool climate that encourages slow-growing tea leaves with a highly concentrated aroma.
Processing and Appearance
Jin Jun Mei is a fully oxidized black tea made primarily from tender spring buds. The careful processing of these young buds creates a tea that is rich, sweet, and smooth rather than harsh or tannic. Our high-grade selection uses a very high proportion of these golden buds. The dry leaves are thin, twisted, and bud-like, consisting predominantly of golden tea buds. The resulting tea produces a bright, clear amber liquor.

How to brew Jin Jun Mei black tea?
There are two methods to makes this loose leaf black tea:
Gongfu brewing
Brew 5 gram with 100 ml of water at 80 °C. Steep for 5 seconds and add 5 seconds for each next infusion.
Western brewing
Steep 3 gram with 500 ml of water at 80 °C. Apply a brewing time of 40 seconds and add 20 seconds for each next infusion.

How this black tea is made
Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.
When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.
Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
