Fox Shuiping Yixing Teapot, Nine-Tailed Fox Clay Painting 160ml

An Yixing teapot made from aged Duan Ni clay from the Huang Long mountains. The teapot is made in the classic Shuiping shape with a vivid clay hand-painted nine-tailed fox. Fully handmade by certified Yixing artist Rao Qing.

This teapot is shipped in a strong gift box with the certificate of authenticity of the artist included. The teapot is marked with the artist's seal.

Aged Duan Ni

The clay used for this teapot is aged duan ni from Huanglong Mountain of Yixing. The original ore is nearly white in appearance and comes from the interlayer of Zisha clay. It contains large particles and a double porous structure.

The aged duan ni is firm, becoming yellow and red after firing. Aged duan ni teapots have richly textured surface after firing, and are suitable for a wide range of teas, making them popular among collectors.

Shuiping Teapot Shape

The word 'shuiping' means balanced in water. In the Fujian-Guangdong region, clever gongfu tea lovers put the small teapots inside a larger container and then repeatedly drench the surface of the teapots with boiling water to make the tea flavour come out more easily. They found that teapots of certain shape floated in the hot water and would not tilt, but remain horizontal. They called this shape 'shuiping' - balanced in water.
