Dragon egg shape teapots

Yixing teapots, that resemble the same of a dragon egg, were first made Shi Dabin, a celebrated Yixing master of the Ming Dynasty. Due to the immense popularity of this style, dragon egg teapots have been made by many distinguished potters throughout history, and remains one of the most popular teapot shapes today.

Paying homage to Master Shi’s pioneering work, such teapots initially feature elegant oval shapes, simplicity, and a bold aesthetic. Its innovative design blends triangular elements into its rounded structure, from the body to the spout and the lid. As time passed, Qing Dynasty dragon egg teapots evolved to exhibit a more refined and graceful appearance, with softer bodies and spouts, transitioning from a triangular to a more globular shape.
