Squirrel Yixing Teapot, Dou Qing Clay, Clay Kneading Technique 230ml

This beautiful teapot is handmade by artist Pan Ye using Dou Qing clay, a special clay that becomes light green after oven firing. It has a classic Bian Fu (flat belly) shape, but to add more cuteness to it, the artist transformed the lid knob into a small detailed squirrel. To create a harmonious design, the spout and handle are shaped like small tree branches with knots. It has a 7-hole filter in the spout and comes with a gift box and a certificate of authenticity.

Clay kneading

Both the squirrel-shaped lid knob, the spout, and handle are made with a special technique called 'Clay kneading.' This advanced ceramic art technique uses two or more types of clay of different colors to create natural patterns (cloud-like, wave-like, spirals, braids, etc.) by kneading and pressing them together. The result for each piece is unique, and it is impossible to replicate the exact same pattern. The technique originated in China during the Tang Dynasty, and similar techniques exist in Japan and Korea.
