This raw pu erh tea cake is made from tea leaves harvested from big trees in the Dahei Forest in Yibang. The tender leaves are beautifully intact with some white buds.

Compared to other small pu erh cakes, which tend to be affordable, this tea cake is made from high-end material with dense aroma, great thickness, and excellent Cha Qi. Highly recommended for pu erh tea connoisseurs and collectors.

Dahei Forest

Dahei Forest is about 4 kilometres from Mangong, one of the core tea production areas of Yibang. The quality of Dahei tea is so high that besides Mansong and Maoerduo, it is considered the best tea in Yibang and its benchmark taste. Yibang is one of Yunnan's six ancient tea mountains and is located in the Xishuangbanna tea region, Yunnan. Its Dahei Forest is situated at an altitude of about 1,900 meters. It was once one of the tribute tea production regions and a post station on the prosperous ancient Tea Horse Road. The forest coverage rate here is high, and tea plants grow in the shape of trees rather than bushes.

Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.

When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.

Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
