How to steep purple tea mini cakes?

Traditional method: Break the mini cake in two and steep half a piece with 100ml of water at 100ºC. Steep the tea for 30 seconds for the first brew, then 20 seconds for the 2nd to 4th preparation. Afterwards, gradually increase the steeping time.

Western method: Break the mini cake in two and steep half a piece with 100ml of water at 100ºC. Steep for the tea leaves for 5 minutes for the first brew, then re-steep for 4 minutes for the second preparation.

purple, but sheng, but purple

I like young shengs, I like purple tea, I like astringency, so what could go wrong? Nothing really. A perfect tea for me. Astringency is on the low end, but there is expected violet tea bitterness. Very nice caffeine kick in first few gaiwan flushes. For me, searching for a nice purple tea, this delivers. The 7 g cakes also open up quite easily with a longer first flush.

Wonderful Tea

I was pleasantly surprised by this tea, as it is rather smooth throughout the early brews, with hardly any astringency. For a sheng pu erh of this age, this is rather uncommon. It must be related to the fact that it is a Zi Juan cultivar tea. The following brews become bolder and provide a more intense experience. Overall, a great tea that I can recommend.
