Our wild purple Yabao tea from Da Xue Mountain offers an delicate aroma of cream, pink roses and hints of citrus. These exclusive tea buds are hand-picked from sprouts on the small twigs of Camellia Crassicolumna tea tree.

Is Yabao a white tea or a pu erh tea?

Yabao tea involves minimal processing as it's only handpicked and then sun-dried. Because its production method is similar to most white teas, it's generally also classified as a white tea. The taste also mostly resembles that of a white tea soft and smooth base and a floral aroma. Some tea drinkers consider Yabao to be a raw pu erh tea, because you can age Yabao tea like a pu erh.

At last, one could say that Yabao is neither white nor pu erh as it's not made from the leaves and buds, but the sprouts on the twigs of a tea tree.

Independent from it's classification, Yabao is a unique tea since it is made from the sprouts of a tea tree, not leaves & buds.

I cold brewed this overnight and oh my god is it wonderful.

I loved it so much. Tastes floral and sweet. Absolutely new experience for tea.

Brewing: 5g/100ml, 100°C, 20s, +5s.

Warmed-up dry leaves smell like dill and green beans. When wet, floral notes appear, along with a chicken broth umami.

The liquor is bright, with grass and flowers on top of that chicken broth base.

This is such a lovely and aromatic tea. Floral, and a hint of honey to me, but not like a tisane. I also like the structure of the liquid. It is one of the few teas I drink summer and winter, as it seems to blend in with both, being light in Summer and comforting in Wintertime.

Amazing tea. Great flavor still going strong on 5+ steeps

Our design work is inspired by the artwork “Along the River During the Qingming Festival” by the Zhang Zeduan in the Song Dynasty. Instead of displaying the daily lives of people in the capital of China (as the original artwork), we display the tea making process of farmers through the same bird’s eye perspective.

When examining our packaging design in detail, tea enthusiasts will observe the tea making process, featuring tea farmers picking, drying, rolling, and frying tea leaves. The tea is then tasted in a pavilion and transported by horses along the ‘ancient tea road’.

Together, the traditional Chinese landscape and tea making theme, symbolise heritage, tradition, and respect for hard work of tea farmers.
