Sun-dried, aged black teas and normal black teas like Lapsang Souchong, Jin Jun Mei, Lichuan etc are intrinsically different.
With normal Chinese black teas, the aroma is intense and very direct, and the taste is more accessible. I'm not sure if you're comparing to our Lapsang Souchong, which is very intense in aroma and sweet. If that's the kind of tea you prefer, then indeed Amber Sunrise might not be right for you.
With a sun-dried black tea, first of all the texture thicker, and resembling somewhat like a ripe pu erh. The aging of the tea results in a more nuanced sweetness, but taste wise, if steeped right, there's a lot of complexity to discover, such as fruity, woody, herbal, and spice notes. So, we actually think this would be an adventurous tea for regular black tea drinkers.
By the way, the optimal drinking age is around 3-4 years for sun-dried black tea, so you will see more flavours develop. If you still have some left, we’d encourage you to let it age for a year and revisit. It might surprise you! No matter the result, we highly appreciate your review!
