On harvinaista törmätä näin kypsään pu-erh-teehen, jolla on uskomattoman rikas, tahmea koostumus. Vaikka paksuus on maltillinen, tämä tahmeus, joka peittää täysin makuhermosi, on mielestämme melko uskomaton. Juuri tämä ominaisuus tekee siitä yhden suosikeistamme kypsistä pu-erh-tee-kakuista Dai-vähemmistön alueelta Xishuangbannassa, Yunnanissa.

Teekakku on valmistettu hienostuneesta sekoituksesta teelehtiä ja kultaisia nuppuja, jotka on huolellisesti käsitelty irtoteeksi (mao cha) ja kevyesti jälkikäynyt tasapainoisen maun saavuttamiseksi. Kakkuja on kevyesti puristettu, joten ne on helppo murtaa paloiksi, jopa käsin, jos teeveistä ei ole saatavilla.

Maku on ihanan lohdullinen, makeilla vivahteilla taateleista ja karamellista. Kun jatkat hauduttamista, esiin nousee hienovaraisia vivahteita riisistä ja mintusta, jotka lisäävät monimutkaisuutta gongfu-haudutushetkeesi. Tämä ei ole voimakkaasti fermentoitunut tai liian vahva kypsä pu erh; sen sijaan se tarjoaa lempeän maanläheisyyden, ilman savuisuutta tai voimakkaita maustevivahteita.

How to make Bai Fu 'Hundred Blessings' ripe pu erh tea?

There are two methods to prepare this pu erh tea cake:

Gongfu method

Brew 5 gram with 100 ml of water at 100°C. Steep for 10 seconds for the first few infusions. Afterward, gradually increase the steeping time.

Western method

Steep 3 gram with 500 ml of water at 100 °C. Apply a brewing time of 1.5 minutes and add 1 minute for each next infusion.

A bit messy but quite good, if...

Although it sounds promising, and the fact that it is from a smaller branch of the Menghai tea manufactury heightened my expectations, it is not from high quality. The taste is quite well, a bit smoky and earthy, what I like, but from the first brewing a lot of junk is noticable and almost disturbing the harmony of the tea. This could be very good, if harvested and selected with more care, leaving out all those branches, overmatured leafparts or leafestalks. It would be maybe ok for half of the price, then this all would be about to expected. Nevertheless, it is OK and I absolutely love drinking Pu Erh so I will honor this by drinking it, which means removing all the items swimming in top carefully and adding a bit more fresh tea after every 3-4 brewings, but that may be my style only 🙏!

The Taste of Zen

The taste of Tea resembles the taste of Zen/Dao. No words could possibly describe it. You have to taste in on your own to get the feeling of it. For this particular - realy unique, rare and fantastic Pu Erh tea the proper description perhaps hides in it's name : "Hundred blessings". True. Hundred blessings to your palate and spirit. As it won't be restocked, don't hesitate!
